While everyone knows the largest law firms in New York several attorneys, it can be more telling to see which firms are growing the fastest and securing the most business in New York City’s competitive legal market. The American Lawyer recently published their list of The 100 Largest Law Firms In New York (2020) based on gross revenue per attorney last year, and we’ve also compiled our list of the 8 Largest Law Firms In New York (2020) based on gross revenue per attorney, as well as the percentage change from 2019 to 2020. See who made our list!

1) Gibson Dunn

Gibson Dunn was founded in Los Angeles in 1944 by Charles R. Dunn and John J. Dunn, brothers from Iowa, who worked for a large law firm there but wanted to start their practice. In 1948,

the firm hired its first woman associate, Maurine Brown Neill. Brown Neill then went on to be an important partner of the firm and became president and chairperson in 1985 before retiring in 1990 at the age of 75. She served as an attorney-in-charge of California employment cases and issues throughout her career at Gibson Dunn.
