Life at Dedman

Dedman is a community of people who work together to create an environment where they can learn, grow and thrive. No two days are alike. We have small classes where we get to know our professors and classmates well. Dedman also has more than 50 student organizations that allow you to find your niche outside of the classroom. The best part of all is that we get to experience Dallas and its diversity while taking full advantage of SMU’s idyllic campus in University Park, just minutes away from downtown Dallas.

Life Outside The Classroom

After a long day of classes, studying, and extracurricular activities, all law students need to take a break. SMU Dedman offers a variety of ways to relax and blow off some steam. From sports clubs like Women’s Rugby, Men’s Cross Country, and Quidditch to our student-run radio station KSCS – Your Station for College Rock; students have lots of options for time away from their studies. They learn how to analyze cases, write legal briefs, discuss legal issues, and more. This has helped me grow a variety of skills that I would not have been able to acquire anywhere else.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

The SMU Dedman School of Law offers several scholarships to help cover some of the cost of attendance. The Dean’s Scholarship is awarded to one student with a GPA and LSAT score that is within 10% of the median and covers full tuition for two years.

Students who are unable to meet this requirement may apply for the President’s Scholarship which covers full tuition for three years or any combination thereof. Applicants should submit their application materials no later than March 1st each year.

The SMU Dedman law school also offers need-based aid in the form of work-study, loans, and scholarships from our generous donors. Our staff will provide you with a financial aid package as early as possible in your admission process so that you can plan your budget accordingly.
