Exit Sandmann: MAGA Kid’s Defamation LOLSuits Against Media Finally Laughed Out Of Court – After months of hard-fought litigation in the District of Columbia, lawyers representing Nick Sandmann and his mother, Melissa, today declared victory in their defamation case against the Washington Post,
CNN, Time Warner, and NBC Universal. The defendants’ motion to dismiss was denied on all counts by Judge James Egan, Jr., of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, bringing an end to one more legal chapter in what has been perhaps the most controversial story of 2019 thus far.
Preliminary Summary
– On November 23rd, 2018, a Michigan man was identified on social media as Nicholas Andrew Sandmann.
– Sandmann and his classmates were wearing Make America Great Again hats and waiting for the March for Life in Washington D.C. when they were approached by Native American activist Nathan Phillips who says he began drumming next to them in an attempt to defuse the situation.
– The viral video shows Nicholas looking down at Phillips’ drums while they are playing while smirking and making strange racist expressions throughout the whole event.
This footage of Sandmann is then shown, again and again, gaining millions of views and thousands of comments from people condemning him for these seemingly hateful expressions towards an elder who was peacefully performing Sandmann’s indigenous culture.
First Suit/ABC
One thing you’ll learn quickly if you’re running a political satire website is that people are angry with me. I often refer to it as the Break-Even Point. I had been sued multiple times by what seemed like everyone on both sides of the aisle – left, right, and center – in my seven years of running The Babylon Bee.
As many readers know, last summer journalist Jake McDorman (a/k/a Twitter user @JayMcGirr) published an in-depth blog post about ABC’s attempt to slander our name with accusations and then attempted to get us to shut down legally for millions through a lawsuit against Sandmann and the entire Gizmodo media group filed for defamation of character.
Second Suit/NBC
Now it’s just too late for us to laugh about this and it is a sad reality of the American culture that we are living in. By the end of today, I expect that our future will be governed by people who have done everything in their power to disenfranchise and suppress as many people as possible on behalf of big business,
greed, power, social Darwinism, and racism. They hate women and they hate everyone who isn’t an unattractive white male and they don’t care what they have to do or who gets hurt along the way. This makes me wonder how many more lawsuits like this we can expect over the next few years if Trump becomes president.
Third Suit/CNN
CNN and the other networks have been slapped with another win on their quest to get sued by various members of the Trump administration. The three new suits filed were laughed out of court in just one day. There is no question that these people are nothing more than a pack of ambulance chasers who only seem to make money off of slander and fabrications about their victims.
We hope for their sake that they find something better to do with their time because clearly, this latest collection of false stories was simply not enough to warrant any serious legal consequence from these guys.
Fourth Suit/Washington Post
MAGA kid- err, Carlito Gaither- has had his last laugh. Thanks to the monumental triumph of Trump, democracy, and the supreme law of the land, Gaither is now officially a laughing stock. Hilarious.
The media lackeys who so disingenuously clapped themselves on the back after suing him as an avenue to embarrassing some poor Black people may have been called out by literally anybody else with half a brain cell and know more about these suits than they do because it was their idea in the first place.
Fifth Suit/Anonymous Source
In September of 2018, Covington Catholic High School student Nicholas Sandmann filed a $250 million lawsuit against The Washington Post for the viciously unprovoked attack on his reputation after Sandmann and some other students were photographed standing in front of Native American activist Nathan Phillips while they had been separated by several Black Hebrew Israelites.
The newspaper had published video footage showing the older man shaking his drum near a group of teens as if taunting them. They hadn’t spoken to one another before Phillips started beating his drum so close to their faces, with the subtext that it was all just part of a longer conversation on the location or perhaps even an orchestrated trap.
Sixth Suit/Additional Defendants
Trending on Twitter and the Wall Street Journal, the kids from Covington Catholic High School in Kentucky were falsely accused of racism against Native American elder Nathan Phillips. Anti-conservative media outlets deliberately edited videos of their encounter with Phillips to leave out their public shaming of an America Indian elder. The kids were faced with death threats,
horrible school yearbook photos, and college interviews ruined before they had a chance to tell their side of the story. But after a deluge of false claims (see below), it seems that satire finally did some good. Today is the day justice was served to the media and yellow journalists who seek only to promote hatred and division.
